This is an indicative estimate only, not a loan offer or approval. Actual rate, repayments and terms depend on the lender's assessment of your circumstances, the vessel, and whether the purchase is business or personal use. If you're financing a boat for personal, domestic or recreational use, different consumer-credit disclosure rules apply — speak to us directly.

How boat and marine finance works

How a boat is financed depends on how it's used. A vessel bought under an ABN for a genuine business purpose — charter, hire, commercial fishing — is typically financed as commercial asset finance, structured much like a truck or piece of equipment: the lender funds the purchase, you own the boat from settlement, and repayments are set against the vessel's value, age and your business's trading history.

A boat bought by an individual purely for personal, recreational use is a different product — a consumer purchase, which carries its own consumer-credit disclosure rules under the National Credit Code. This calculator gives a repayment estimate either way, but the exact structure, paperwork and applicable regulations differ, so tell your broker upfront whether the purchase is for business or personal use.

New and used boats and jet skis are both financeable, and so are private-sale purchases, which typically go through an independent inspection step before settlement so the lender has confidence in the vessel's condition.

Business vs personal boat finance

If your boat genuinely earns income for a business — a charter operation, hire fleet or commercial fishing vessel — interest on the finance is generally tax deductible and the vessel may be depreciable, the same as any other business asset. If the boat is for personal enjoyment, none of that applies: the finance is a consumer product, the interest isn't deductible, and different disclosure obligations sit around how the loan is advertised and offered to you. This calculator doesn't assume either case for you — it's a maths tool, not tax or credit advice — confirm your situation with your accountant and with us before applying.

Marine finance across Australia

Recreational and commercial boating is a significant part of life in coastal Australia, and demand for marine finance tends to follow the seasons — picking up ahead of summer and around boat shows, and covering everything from a first jet ski to a charter operator adding a vessel to their fleet. Because a boat purchase — business or personal — can be a meaningful outlay, comparing terms across a broker panel rather than accepting the single rate a dealer's in-house finance desk offers is often where the real difference in cost shows up.

Boat & marine finance FAQs

Yes. Boats, jet skis and other marine craft are financeable through our panel, new or used, whether purchased from a dealer or privately.

It depends on how the boat is used. A boat bought under an ABN for a genuine business purpose (charter, hire, commercial fishing) is typically financed as commercial asset finance, the same as a truck or piece of equipment. A boat bought by an individual for personal, recreational use is a consumer purchase, which carries different consumer-credit disclosure rules — tell us which applies to you so we can point you at the right product.

No dealer requirement at all — a dealer sale, private sale, buying from a friend or relative, even a Facebook Marketplace listing, are all fine. Private sales just involve a couple of extra verification steps that we handle for you before settlement, since there's no dealer warranty backing the vessel's condition.

It depends on the lender — but we have lenders on our panel who don't require a deposit at all.

Only where the boat is genuinely used for an income-producing business purpose, such as charter or commercial fishing — in that case the interest is generally deductible in the same way as other business asset finance. Interest on a boat financed purely for personal recreational use is not tax deductible. Confirm your specific position with your accountant.

Straightforward applications are often assessed within a day or two. More complex deals — larger vessels, new entities, or non-standard structures — take longer while we compare terms across the panel.
